Doner recently launched Cardboard World online, building out its integrated campaign for The UPS Store starring adventurer Joe Biz. The site takes visitors through all the small business services available at the UPS franchised subsidiary, engaging them in various games and challenges along the way. The project was created entirely in-house at Doner.

We are rebuilding the logo for SetMyCompanyUp as it’s a bit dated and stale. Here are three concepts we’re working on. Originally the site was in orange but orange can come out a bit yellow on screen so we’ve looked to darken it. We’ve also added a character from the screen to give keep it in context of the style. Which one do you like?

We brought SetMyCompanyUp.ie

to the GradIreland Summer fair yesterday at the RDS. We were absolutely gobsmacked by the response from students! Loads of them enquired about what they needed to do to setup a company, how to get finance and where to start. There were a couple of points I thought were interesting from the day out.

4 Years Or Learning Business And Still Lost

I was absolutely astounded by the number of business students that were asking me fundamental questions about setting up a company. I’m continuously amazed at how the education system get’s praised in this country but basic skill in the field of study weren’t met. Surely the best way to learn about business is to run a business, is it not!

No Recession Here, No Immigration Last Man Standing divx

Not once in the daylong event was the word recession mentioned to me. I completely missed the obvious, students might not be finding work too readily now but instead of immigration as an option they’re thinking about go it on their own. It was great to listen and talk to this level of confidence.

Bull Shit Business Plans

Of the students that I met, some from a very prestigious business masters school in the south side of the city. I couldn’t believe that they were still being thought to write big business plans. The last big business plan I wrote was for Direct2web, after spending about 7k and 6 months of development I realised after my first real world test case with a customer that the project would never work the original way it was intended. I’ve now converted it into a much simple product and it is an add on to SetMyCompanyUp.

Business plans should be 2 pages max, just to get the basics then get on the phone and start talking to people, ask people would they pay for this product or service and how much. A week doing this and you’ll know more about your business then you will berried in front of a word document.

All in all - a promising day knowing what’s on young people’s minds.

When we were asked to look at the rebuild of Apple Yard Motors site we jumped at the idea. We wanted to steer away from a cluttered site jammed full of cars and deals and move more towards a site the is simply about the cars. We stuck within the confines of the Ford branding regulations and used their wonderful shots of cars to get across the idea of life style. A simple design showing the beauty of the cars.

New Homepage for Big Trees.ie

We’ve have just started working with the SAP Group on their BigTrees.ie website. We thought it might be good for Big Trees to step away from the traditional Flower/Tree websites, where they are saturated with greens and bad images of flowers/ trees.

This is the mock we’ve created for their site. Simple navigation, texted based so very SEO friendly. We’ve got across the idea of gardens using browns and a kind of retro grunge feel. With a good design we also stripped the site down it it’s basics getting rid or ‘weather forecasts’, or other space wasters.
